SEO Tip #2: Get organic. Be credible and relevant.
How to do this. "Getting organic" simply means getting real. Being real. There is nothing magical or different about the internet. People generally want their on-line experiences to provide the same things they seek in every other experience :value, needs satisfaction, humor, trustworthy information..... anonymous, unlimited access to porn.... Oh, wait, sorry. Nobody ever looks at on-line porn. My bad.
Just imagine we were going to a convention. We can pick any convention, so lets go to the Free Sex Movie convention (not that we WOULD actually go to it; but this really ties in to the bigger point, so please just don't be all offended and play along for now. I promise to tie it in).
We get to the convention and start to mill around and network and hob-nob with the other thousands of attendees at the Free Sex Movie convention. We see a really, extremely interesting looking fellow, so we introduce ourselves and strike up a conversation.
The problem is, this person looked really interesting, but every 15 seconds, the guy yells, "Free Sex Movies", right in the middle of the conversation. People are starting to gather around, but we are starting to feel very DIS-interested and uncomfortable.
After a mere 65.3 seconds, we find the person is not anything at all like what we thought he would be, and we just walk away.
As soon as we leave though, another person steps out of the assembled crowd, hands the guy a $20 bill and staples a business card to the front of the mans very nice looking suit. Then another person steps forward and does the same thing.
All the while, the man is blabbering away about.... whatever... and stopping every 15 seconds to shout, "Free Sex Movies". We can hear him as we wind our way through the crowd and grit our teeth.
Soon, the man's jacket front and back are covered with business cards and a few brochures, and people are starting to pin things to his trousers.
We get a soft pretzel and a soda and grab a seat at one of the big tables in the food court area. A couple sit down across from us, and they are chatting away about the guy yelling "Free Sex Movies". Then they ask US if we have seen the guy yelling "Free Sex Movies", and they give us directions on how to go see him, and they show us a picture they took of themselves standing in front of the guy yelling "Free Sex Movies".
You and I, meanwhile, do not want to hear it. We didn't come here for it. We are leaving the convention, the Free Sex Movie convention, and going to go play Black Jack or something.
The tie in: Using tricks and gimmicks to pump up your site will increase your traffic. There's no question of that. However, .... you read the above story, right? I mean, you get it already.
As it turns out, people do over 350,000,000 searches for "free sex movies" every month. Some of those people will ultimately be pointed here by that search, but only for a very brief period of time, because, when they type that in the search bar, they are not looking for SEO tips.
They'll be directed here, They'll be upset to not find anything they really want. They'll leave. The website reputation goes DOWN, not up, in the long run with those tactics.
